I’ve been down and out for a few days guys. Ugh.
I’ve been sick with a ridiculous cold for over a week now. Like, mom sick. That means, no dinners made, no laundry done, no sense of humour. Usually I just power through and suck it up (don’t all moms??). I missed the gym for over a week too, which can have serious consequences when you bake as often as I do (in desperation, I may have googled how many calories are burned when you sneeze and blow your nose. I know you think that’s ridiculous but you’re also dying to know. Research tells me it might be 2.) I resorted to copious amounts of my moms Lemon Ginger Healing Tea to help me kick this and now feel like I might be able to face a work day tomorrow (read: face a work day and also be nice to people tomorrow).
When we were little, mom would make this tea for us every time we got sick with a bad cold. It’s full on ginger and lemon flavor so mom had to do lots of coaxing to help us drink it down. “Just drink half” she would say, snuggling up with us on the couch. “Two more sips!” she coaxed. And we usually finished it. Invariably we always got better, possibly from the awful tea she gave us, probably from the love.
Now, as an adult, I find myself wanting this tea when I’m feeling under the weather. It not only brings some comfort, but I know now that there are truly some healing properties in there. The lemon, for instance, is full of Vitamin C which weakens the cold and is believed to shorten the duration. The ginger has all sorts of healing magic, from soothing a sore throat, calming a nagging cough and settling an upset tummy. And drinking something steamy helps with congestion.
Oh gosh mom. Still taking care of me after all this time and you don’t even know it. I’ll be ship shape before long friends! I’m hoping to be back to baking and sharing with you really soon. In the meantime, if you’ve got the sniffles, and I hope you don’t, give this Lemon Ginger Healing Tea a try.
